Asexual
What is an Asexual?
An asexual person is someone who’s not sexually attracted to individuals of any gender and who does not need to have sex to feel complete. While asexuals aren’t interested in sex, they can still have romantic and emotional needs and decide to have a partner.
Asexuality is different from celibacy because celibates are simply people who decide to refrain from having sex despite having the desire to do so. Asexuals are commonly referred to as Aces.
Asexuality Myths
People are still picking up on what it means to be asexual, and that’s why there are so many myths and misunderstandings surrounding asexuality. Hopefully, this will make things clearer:
- Asexual people don’t desire or need to have sex, but they’re still able to do so. Aces can choose to have sex for plenty of reasons, ranging from wanting to have a child to being curious about what it feels like to have sex;
- Despite not experiencing sexual attraction, asexuals can feel other types of attraction, including romantic, aesthetic, and emotional attraction;
- Not all asexuals are repulsed by sex, and they can enjoy healthy relationships with people who are sexual.
