Edging

What is Edging?

Edging is the act of purposely delaying an orgasm to intensify sexual pleasure, often by reaching as closely to the climax without cumming. Such is achieved with controlled stimulation, either alone or in the company of a partner.

Because the person edging is almost cumming without actually reaching an orgasm, the climax is more intense once it happens.

Edging must not be confused with edgeplay, which is a term used in BDSM to describe activities that, while consensual, are sometimes dangerous to the point of being considered borderline criminal.

The Benefits of Edging

While edging may not be for everyone, it has several benefits:

  • Edging makes orgasms more pleasurable;
  • Edging helps people to know their bodies better;
  • Edging can stimulate self-control, which is great for men suffering from premature ejaculation;
  • When done in the company of a partner, edging can strengthen trust in a relationship.

Watch Out For Blue Balls!

As we have seen, edging has several benefits and can downright revolutionize your foreplay game for the better! However, edging can also give way to blue balls, which can affect virtually all men.

In a Prevention article, the licensed sex coach Sophia Murphy recommended “holding your nose, closing your mouth, and exhaling forcefully” to make the uncomfortable sensation of blue balls go away.
