Foreplay
What Is Foreplay?
Foreplay refers to all kinds of romantic/sexual interactions that precede sexual intercourse, including non-penetrative sexual acts such as oral sex. Naturally, that’s not to say that all non-penetrative sex must be qualified as foreplay.
As a rule of thumb, foreplay should be interpreted as the intimate and sexy events that precede the final stage of sexual intercourse, be it penetrative or not. This way, the term is inclusive of, for example, some lesbian sex, as well as people who don’t like penetration.
The Benefits of Foreplay
In addition to being extremely fun, foreplay also has several scientifically proven benefits:
- Foreplay helps both men and women get ready for sex due to an increase in blood flow to the genitals;
- Surprisingly enough, foreplay (especially when it includes oral sex) can help men last longer in bed;
- Foreplay helps partners to know each other a little better, which results in lower inhibitions in the bedroom and a superior understanding of each other’s body.
What About Afterplay?
Afterplay is—you guessed it—the opposite of afterplay, i.e., whatever goes on between a couple once sexual intercourse’s done with. While afterplay is not even nearly as discussed as foreplay, many people believe it is just as important for sexual satisfaction.
