Lube (Personal Lubricant)
What is Lube?
Lube or personal lubricant is a high-viscosity liquid substance that’s used to reduce unwanted friction during sex, especially penetrative sex. Even though lube is virtually essential for anal sex, it’s used in all kinds of sexual activities, from vaginal sex to masturbation.
Scientific studies have shown that utilizing lube contributes to “higher ratings of pleasurable and satisfying sex.” Additional benefits of lube include smoother skin and a lower risk of penetrative-related injury.
What is Lube Made Of?
There are different types of lubes, including special ones that produce warm/cold sensations. However, most lubes are set on one of four bases (according to Healthline):
- Water
- Oil
- Silicone
- Hybrid (combining two or more of the above bases)
To choose the lube that best suits you and your partner, give each a try or consult your dermatologist.
Why Lube?
Sadly, the notion that women who need lube are just not excited enough is still prevalent. However, nothing is insulting about using lube in the bedroom! Lube is simply a facilitator, a substance that can help sex to feel smoother.
In other words, you don’t have to use lube only when it’s needed! Even if you and your partner are already naturally lubricated, this substance can improve your sexual experience by reducing friction and even promoting longer sexual sessions.
