Orgasm

What is an Orgasm?

Orgasm is the name given to the “sudden discharge of accumulated sexual excitement” that occurs in men and women during sexual intercourse. Normally, orgasms are associated with an extreme sensation of pleasure.

In the case of men, an orgasm is synonymous with ejaculation. Women, on the other hand, can experience orgasms in several different ways, as they can have both vaginal (sometimes followed by squirting) and clitoral orgasms.

The Health Benefits of Orgasms

In addition to being pleasureful, orgasms have several benefits for both men and women, some of which can be quite surprising! These are some of the most important:

  • Orgasms improve sleep and reduce stress;
  • They can improve heart health and help prevent cardiovascular diseases;
  • They help with pain relief and management;
  • They improve skin health due to the release of oxytocins;
  • They have several psychological benefits, increasing intimacy between couples, boosting mood, and improving self-esteem;
  • Orgasming regularly can also increase women’s fertility.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, an orgasm is perhaps the only way of truly finding sexual relief. Without an orgasm, accumulated sexual pleasure can damage one’s mood and health. In males, it can also give way to a phenomenon colloquially known as blue balls.

Male vs. Female Orgasms

Male and female orgasms are intrinsically different, but they have similar functions and health benefits. For the most part, females are believed to have a harder time cumming, as studies show only 50% of women orgasm during sexual intercourse (for men, the percentage sits above 90).

If you or your partner have trouble having orgasms, here are some things you can do to cum more quickly:

  • Focus on having pleasure, not just on giving pleasure;
  • Masturbate frequently to get to know your body better;
  • Use foreplay to increase sexual excitement before intercourse;
  • Communicate your sexual needs and preferences with your partner as clearly as possible;
  • Use sex toys such as a vibrator to increase sexual pleasure;
  • Use oral sex as a finisher, as many people find it easier to cum with blow jobs and cunnilingus;
  • In case none of the above works, take some time to consult a sex therapist or medical professional.

Men and women love having fun with orgasms too, especially when ejaculation is involved. Facials and creampies are but two popular examples of sexual acts that rely on orgasms.
