Squirting

What Is Squirting?

Squirting is a slang word for female ejaculation referring to the expulsion of fluid from the Skene’s gland that occurs during an orgasm. Not all women can squirt, but the ones who do so tend to squirt because of penetrative sex, not clitoris stimulation (even though both tend to be involved).

While there’s still no scientific consensus regarding this matter, a study on the origin of squirting has concluded that the fluids ejaculated during squirting come from the bladder, indicating that squirting is pee.

What Does Squirting Feel Like?

It’s impossible to know how squirting feels like unless you’re a squirter yourself. However, many women have described the sensation as “surprising” and “weird,” with others claiming it’s superior to a “traditional” orgasm (and others saying otherwise).

For some women, squirting is incredibly easy and happens several times during penetrative sex. To others, a squirting orgasm isn’t as satisfying as a traditional female orgasm, constituting more a source of sexual pleasure than sexual relief.

What causes women to squirt isn’t always the same. Some only require a little bit of penetrative sex, while others can only squirt during fingering. In sum, every squirter is different…

Busting Squirting Myths

Unfortunately, squirting is still just a porn category for the vast majority of people. Here are three things we still get wrong about squirting today:

  • Squirting is fake? No. While there are probably lots of “manufactured” squirting videos out there, squirting is real and happens to millions of women worldwide;
  • Every woman can squirt? No. According to sex research, only 10% to 54% of women are capable of squirting;
  • Squirts are always wet and messy? No. While some squirters are real pourers, others squirt just a little bit of fluid—hardly enough to wet the bed!
