Bisexual
What is a Bisexual?
A bisexual is a person who is sexually attracted to more than one gender, as in a man who is sexually attracted to both men and women. Bisexuals don’t need to be equally attracted to both genders, but they cannot qualify as bisexuals if they’re attracted to just one gender.
Bisexual vs. Pansexual
Bisexuality is often mixed up with pansexuality, but there’s a crucial difference between the two. While bisexuals are attracted to more than one gender, pansexuals are attracted to all genders (i.e., they are attracted to people regardless of gender).
As the list of available genders continues to expand, bisexuals can feel attracted to more than two genders and still not be considered pansexuals.
Busting Bisexuality Myths
Tired of getting bisexuals wrong or being wrongly identified as bisexual? Here are four bisexuality myths we all must get out of the way:
- Myth 1: Bisexuals only date cisgender men or women. Truth: Being bisexual means liking your gender and others, not just two genders.
- Myth 2: Bisexuals are confused or deny their true selves. Truth: Bisexuality is a real identity, not a phase (even though it’s okay to have a bisexual phase).
- Myth 3: Bisexuals are more likely to cheat. Truth: Cheating has nothing to do with being bisexual!
- Myth 4: Only women are bisexual. Truth: Men can be bisexual too, and there’s no reason to believe there are more bisexual women than bisexual men.
